Our technology partner – Advantech, a leading provider of embedded IoT solutions, announces the production availability of the SOM-6884 flexible AI solution. With the latest 13th Gen Intel® Core™ processors and up to 96 EUs, this module offers optimized visual computing performance. It meets R3.1 COM Express specifications, simplifies development and supports QFCS for constant 100% performance at 45 W and 60 °C. A radiation-optimized variant also ensures stability and reduces interference in medical imaging or test equipment.
Powerful image processing and edge computing capabilities
The SOM-6884 is equipped with the latest integrated Iris® Xe controller, which has an impressive 96 EUs in its graphics units and supports up to 4 independent displays with resolutions of up to 8K. This capability enables the efficient processing of large and complex image data with outstanding image quality. Therefore, the SOM-6884 is particularly used for applications such as ultrasound, endoscopy, surgical robotics, stereo video for 3D constructions and broadcasting equipment.
In addition, the SOM-6884 offers two PCIe Gen4 interfaces with high bandwidth (x8 and x4 each with a speed of up to 16 GT/s). These interfaces make it possible to further increase the computing power for image and video processing with external graphics cards, digital I/Os, relay expansion cards and FPGAs. This enhanced configuration provides the flexibility and improved performance required for image processing and automation applications.
Furthermore, numerous high-speed PCIe interfaces improve performance by allowing a large number of DUTs (devices under test) to be processed simultaneously. This results in shorter test times and lower manufacturing costs – ultimately maximizing the value of data processing in edge computing.
Optimal cooling and radiation protection thanks to Quadro Flow Cooling System
The Quadro Flow Cooling System (QFCS) for the SOM-6884 ensures that the noise level remains below 38 dB at 45 W TDP while maintaining 100% performance, even at ambient temperatures of 60 °C. With its low-profile design and 26.9mm height, it is an ideal thermal solution to achieve optimal performance in a small space.
In addition to heat dissipation, radiation coupling can be a source of EMI interference in medical imaging and machine vision systems, which can also be amplified by powerful fan motors. Advantech’s radiation-optimized design and service approach focuses on the concept of isolation. This approach allows designers to incorporate special absorbers under the SOM-6884. With this design, radiation-optimized solutions can effectively block radiation leakage and accelerate the elimination of radiation through improved grounding. With this customized design and service, customers can successfully overcome thermal, acoustic and EMI noise issues.
