Kontron Presents Three New COM Express Modules Based on 13th Generation Intel Core Processors

Our technology partner Kontron, a leading global provider of IoT/Embedded Computing Technology (ECT), introduces the new COM Express® modules COMe-bRP6, COMe-cRP6 and COMe-mRP10 based on Intel® Core™ processors of the 13th generation (formerly codenamed Raptor Lake-P). They offer a significant increase in performance compared to the previous generation and are equipped with up to 14 processor cores based on the Intel® Performance Hybrid Architecture. The 13th generation is particularly suitable for demanding industrial IoT applications.

High-performance graphics and fast video processing

The new COM Express® modules based on 13th Gen Intel® Core™ Technology Raptor Lake-P support up to 14 processor cores (up to 6 P processor cores and up to 8 E processor cores) based on Intel® Performance Hybrid Architecture. Up to 96 graphics units deliver high-performance graphics and fast video processing with Intel® Iris® Xe for impressive performance. Four display pipes and pipelock synchronization ensure highly parallel AI workloads. Modules feature either DDR5 SO-DIMMs or LPDDR5 memory with up to 64 GB or 32 GB for the COMe-mRP10 and up to 2.5 Gbit Ethernet, including TSN support (for dedicated SKUs). As a storage medium, an NVMe SSD with up to 1 TByte can optionally be integrated onboard.

Launch of the Intel® Core™ platform in the COM Express® Mini form factor

Because of the scalable SoC and power range, Kontron will offer the new technology in three COM Express® form factors: Basic, Compact (pin-out type 6 compliant) and Mini (pin-out type 10 compliant). For the first time, Kontron is offering Intel® Core™ technology on COM Express® Mini. Customers thus benefit from extremely high performance in a small form factor.

It means an enormous leap in computing and graphics performance. We can now also meet the long-term market requirements for the smallest COMe form factor. This enables our customers to manufacture even smaller and highly integrated systems at Intel® Core™ performance levels,” explains Peter Müller, VP of Product Center Modules at Kontron.

Industrial suitability and optimum durability

The COM Express® modules offer key industrial-grade features such as support for In-Band Error Correction Code (IBECC) memory, Intel® Time Coordinated Computing (Intel® TCC), Time Sensitive Networking (TSN) and an extended temperature range of -40 °C to +85 °C. Selected SKUs provide optimal industrial longevity of 100 percent operation over 10 years. IoT differentiation also guarantees long availability.

All features are perfectly suited for applications in demanding areas such as industrial automation, healthcare and automotive. The Kontron COM Express® Eval Carrier 2 Type 6 with 5 mm COMe connector offers a range of standard interfaces, optimizing design-in and evaluation tools for COMe Type 6 modules.
