Embedded innovations and solutions for Industry 4.0 and digitalization

Our technology partner Kontron, a leading global provider of IoT/Embedded Computing Technology (ECT), presented a wide range of innovative embedded solutions at embedded world 2022 in Nuremberg from June 21-23.

Key highlights included high-performance computing with the new industry standard COM-HPC®, scalable Computer-on-Modules, and boards and systems based on the latest processors from Intel®, AMD® and various Arm® architectures.

Below we present four new products that Kontron introduced at embedded world:

3.5″ SBC-EKL – Highest security, low power consumption and low latency

The new 3.5-inch single-board computer 3.5“-SBC-EKL is equipped with two DDR4 SO-DIMM memory slots as well as two 2.5GbE LAN interfaces, four USB 3.2 Gen2 interfaces and one SATA 3.0 port to enable high data transfer rates between storage and peripherals. The board also features two DisplayPort ports on the rear panel and supports 4K UHD resolution at 60 frames per second. Some models support Intel® Time Coordinated Computing (TCC) technology and Time Sensitive Networking (TSN). They also provide highly reliable, low-latency Ethernet communication. It is ideal for safety-critical real-time computing applications in industrial automation, smart city, retail and healthcare.

D3723-R mITX – Brilliant graphics in a mini-ITX form factor with the AMD Ryzen™ Embedded R2000 series

The Kontron D3723-R mITX industrial motherboard is based on the AMD Ryzen™ Embedded R2000 series. It is developed and produced in Germany. Compared to AMD’s V/R1000 APUs (Accelerated Processing Units), it delivers even higher performance. In addition to the lower price, the new motherboard also features impressive Windows 11 support and a product lifecycle of seven years. Thanks to AMD Radeon™ Vega graphics, the solution is particularly suitable for embedded graphics applications such as professional casino gaming systems, medical displays, thin clients and industrial PCs as well as kiosk, infotainment or digital signage systems.

KBox A-151-TGL – Fanless and high-performance Box PC for IoT Edge and AI applications

Based on the 11th generation Intel® Core™ i3-1115G4E, i5-1145GRE/i5-1145G7 or i7-1185GRE/i7-1185G7E or the Intel® Celeron® processor 6305E with up to four processing cores and 4.4 GHz (burst) each as well as a memory expansion of max. 64 GB, the new KBox A-151-TGL industrial PC is ideal for demanding IoT gateway applications in industrial environments. As a special feature, the system has an expansion slot on the front (I/O Door), which can be used to expand the KBox A-151-TGL with additional functionalities such as fieldbuses, interfaces such as graphics, serial or digital I/Os and Ethernet interfaces. Optionally, 4G/5G or WiFi 6 connectivity can also be added to the system.

KBox C-104-TGL Series – Powerful Box PC with TSN support

KBox C-104-TGL Kontron Box PC

The systems of the new KBox C-104-TGL-Family are based on the Intel® Core™ or Intel® Xeon® W processors of the 11th generation, improving determinism in Industrie 4.0 environments with integrated TSN and Intel® Time Coordinated Computing (Intel® TCC) functionality and enable diverse real-time applications. The CPUs used to have up to eight processing cores and are particularly suitable for demanding edge workloads and high-end applications with high bandwidth. The maintenance-free system enables fanless operation up to +65 °C; Goldcap and the optional redundant power supplies, as well as the recovery functionality, guarantee maximum system availability and long service life.
